Martin has mushed since he was eight years old.
After doing some sprint races he decided to do longer sled dog races, such as the Can-Am Crown 250, the Labrador 400, UP 200 (Michigan), and finally he realized one of his dreams in racing the Yukon Quest in 2003, where he got Rookie Of The Year and finished with bad frostbite.
He won the Can-Am 250 three times and would like to have more championships!!!
The Can-Am is his preferred race because of the nice organization, and also because of the people there.
In the future, Martin would like to race the Yukon Quest again, and also enter the Iditarod. Martin's hobby is to MUSH, MUSH, and MUSH again!!!

They moved from Massachusetts in 1999 and established Mishawum Kennel. http://www.mishawum.com/ .
Bob works as an automotive technician and he considers himself especially grateful for an understanding employer and neighbors.
Bob prefers to run bigger teams than his wife does.
He thoroughly enjoys being out on the trails with friends during long training runs at places like Stratford, NH and Mattawin, Quebec.
He brings to this event past experiences, such as earning the Sportsmanship Award at the 2004 Beargrease 150 and placing first in the Craftsbury 60 back in 2005.
He has run both the Can-Am 30 and the Can-Am 60 numerous times. This will be his second attempt at the 250-mile course.
The O'Hearn team now consists of 20 Siberian Huskies (aka canine kids) which totally consume their lives and leave little discretionary time or money for other interests.
The ages of the dogs on Bob's team range from 2 to 8 years.

We have three children, Derek (16), Ryan (13), and Fredericka (8).
We operate Nahmakanta Lake Camp, a wilderness camp near Baxter Park. We've had sled dogs for almost 25 years.
Taking care of our kids, dogs and business doesn't leave much spare time, but my two sons and I like to take a few weeks off in late summer for a canoe trip in Northern Canada.
This year my soon-to-be-14-year-old son, Ryan, will be signing up for the 30-mile race, and I'm hoping he will enjoy the experience and develop a long-term interest in dog mushing and racing.
My daughter also has a passion for the dogs, and she enjoys helping out in the kennel and running a two-dog team."

Over the years I have had the opportunity to do some really fun things with my dogs.
Last year we went up north to race in a 250 above the tree line. It was awesome to enter in a race and compete against some fan hitch teams.
This was a tough race for me. It's hard to race in an environment that is completely unfamiliar and unforgiving.
The year before that we were up in the Yukon where we got to meet and race with some excellent people and dogs.
Now this year I hope to race right here in my own back yard. See you there."

Jaye Foucher has a kennel of about 22 Siberian Huskies in central New Hampshire.
The dogs are primarily from the North Wapiti lineage.
In 2000, Jaye stumbled across the sport of mushing after buying a pet Siberian Husky. She totally ignored the warning about it being addictive.
Three years later she found herself owning 8 dogs and running her first 30 mile race.
Since the beginning she has wanted to run distance races, and in 2007 Jaye completed her first Can-Am 250, along with the Eagle Lake 100 and Greenville Wilderness races.
She is hoping to run the Iditarod or Quest in 2010. One of the things she likes most about this sport is that it's always an adventure and never boring!
When she is not enjoying the many white-knuckled rides found behind a 12-14 dog team, Jaye owns and runs a web development firm.

They will be three years old in this coming race. They ran the Eagle Lake 100 last year.
I retire in August 2008, and I plan on running the Iditarod in 2009. This will give me plenty of time to train.
Due to my life style with the dogs, I have recently found myself single. I guess it's a new plateau in running a team of dogs at a more serious level."

This past winter I have been running out of Dummer, NH and out of my backyard in Warwick, MA.
I have also been working with Great Northern Moose Lodge, giving 60-mile group rides."

This time will be a good one. I have some new dogs, and I expect to finish in the top ten.

"We also take good care of Tristan and Marc Antoine, our two children. We are happy that they really like sledding."
Besides the dogs, Marc has two horses. He also makes custom dog sleds.
Marc says he has been "mushing for ten years and learned many things from the great musher, Martin Massicotte".

Andy has been mushing since he met his wife, Liz Como, in 1990.
But he really got into the sport a few years later when "her" dogs became "our" dogs.
Since 2000, he has been working for the Patagonia Company, which designs and sells outdoor clothing and gear.
Andy has also worked as an Outward Bound Instructor since 1989. At Outward Bound he has instructed many a dogsled course.
With Andy and Liz's own business, Winter Journeys, he has introduced many novices to the joy of mushing.
Andy became a father in November of 2006. He is most often seen with a camera in hand, and lately his prime subject is his daughter, Sofia.
He took some wonderful photos of Sophia on her first dogsled trip last March.
He has run the Can-Am 250 twice (alternating with Liz's runs), finishing it once. Now he is excited about their new crop of "wired" dogs.
This will be his first run in the Can-Am 60.
Andy's favorite moments with the dogs are the "hours of scooping poop and changing water buckets, especially since Liz seems to have forgotten how to do these tasks".
Actually, what he really likes to do with the dogs is take them out exploring.
He has gained a reputation in the local sledding community.
When you go mushing with Andy, be prepared for an adventure, ready to really hang on to your sled, and ready to go off trail.
One of their handlers, Ruth, was heard to say after a training run with Andy, "Well, I didn't die, so I must be stronger".
Andy has made significant overnight sledding expeditions in Maine and Quebec. He is also an avid mountain biker and has competed in the Vermont 50 three times.

For our day jobs, we work for Outward Bound running wilderness trips that specialize in character development.
We moonlight (sometimes quite literally) in the off-season as mushers, handlers, and kennel servants, which results in a certain amount of character development.
The dogs' work includes hauling freight sleds on Outward Bound expeditions, taking people on dogsled tours (Mornington Crescent Sled Dogs), and countless other runs that blur the line between "race training" and "recreational".
No matter the job at hand, the dogs respond joyfully, and we consider it our job to keep it fun for them."

Most of our races have been sprint racing up until 2006 when we entered the Can-Am 30. Since that time we have raced in some smaller 30 mile races in NY and due to snow conditions other races we had entered were cancelled. We train with friends in Ontario and spend weekends in the Adirondacks for training with the Quad. I've been involved with Alaskans for 8 years and had Malamutes for 4 or 5 years before that.
This is my first shot at the 60. I ran the 30 two years ago and finished 11th. Last year my wife ran the 30 for her first time and finished 13th. Thank God for the storm the night before, if she had finished better than I, I never would have heard the end of it!
We have 2 daughters, Abbey and Tess, ages 11 and 7 who are fantastic handlers and train with the team throughout the season. Abbey would like to compete in the 30 next year. Our family really looks forward to the Can-Am. This town pulls out all the stops for the mushers and families. The race is top notch, and we see what we have in our kennel by racing against the best mushers in the northeast. Although we don't have the fastest dogs, we have always been ecstatic in the performance of our dogs and how well we have finished. The crowds, the trail, the volunteers and the scenery are an easy trade off for the 12 hour ride from NJ. I hope for the great run, healthy, happy dogs and a fantastic weekend here with family, friends and you folks here at Ft. Kent! Let's Rock!!

My husband, Bruce, and I own and operate RPM Kennel in Cheboygan, Michigan. We have 34 Alaskan Huskies and unlike most folks we don't live with our dogs due to our work situation.
So we travel a total of 9 hours, every weekend 52 weeks of the year to train and spend time with our dogs. We are blessed to have a really wonderful caretaker for the dogs during the week. We have been competing in mid-distance events for about 6 years now and travel all over the US participating in various events. We enter each event with the goal of finishing with a healthy happy dog team. We are addicted to stage racing and would love to see more of this format in the future. We have always been avid outdoors folks and have given up snowmobiling, golf and other hobbies so we can concentrate on the dogs. There has been no other sport we've been involved in that gives us so much fulfillment and joy as does dog sledding. The bond between musher and dogs is something that cannot be described and must be experienced. These animals are very special and never cease to amaze us. We look forward to returning to the Can-Am and enjoying the beautiful trail system and friendly people.

My wife, Tanya, and I started our dog sledding life 14 years ago with the purchase of 1 Siberian Husky pup. We now own 120 purebred Siberian and make our living dog sledding with our company, Winterdance Dogsled Tours. It has been a long term goal of our kennel to compete with our Siberians in mid and long distance races. Our future goals are to take one of our teams to the Iditarod and Yukon Quest. We have 3 children, Logan 8, Dustyn 6, both of whom also love running dogs, and Michaela 2. We make our home and training grounds in the rugged Haliburton Highlands of Ontario.
For the past 8 years we have run a touring kennel of 120 Siberian Huskies spending winters on the runners of a sled. Last year we started our goal of long distance mushing and would be honored to be allowed to entered the Can-Am 250. I ran the UP200 last year but scratched at the 120 mile mark due to a team of very sick dogs.

I've finished every race I've entered. I have run the Sandwich Notch three times in the last 10 years and the Can-Am 30 twice, the last being in 2006. We were all actively involved in the organization of the Craftsbury True Companion race in Craftsbury, VT
We love the Can-Am races and especially enjoy meeting people through the adopt-a-musher program. We find the organization superb and the enthusiasm of the community for the race is so infectious that we just want to come back every year.
I work in the New York City area and commute back to Vermont on the weekend. Running dogs in the wilderness leaves all the stresses of work behind. Our other hobby is sailing. We own a trimaran that we call ‘Summer Sled'. It has a dogsled logo on the side.
We dedicate our running of this race to our first Siberian, ‘Alex', who took us down a path we never imagined, and to ‘Sooty', Rhonda's Siberian who ran in wheel with Alex, her true love."

"I have been dog-sledding for many years and have always enjoyed everything about it. I have participated in many races over the past years, and I'm hoping to do so for many more years. My goal is to improve on every race I run.
I operate my own maple syrup confections business. I'm also interested in hunting."
